Organization Name:  Southeast Michigan Indians (SEMI)
Organization Overview:  About Us South Eastern Michigan Indians, Inc. "SEMII" Our History... In the early 1970's it was recognized that the cultural, economic and social needs of the Native American Indian Community required a central location in South Eastern Michigan. Many community members met and developed the By-laws to form South Eastern Michigan Indians, Inc. On May 30, 1975 South Eastern Michigan Indians, Inc. became a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization to deliver services to Native Americans in Macomb, Oakland, and St. Clair counties. In April of 1993, SEMII opened the doors of its new facility in Center Line, Michigan, where we continue to provide a broad base of services. Our Mission Statement... "...shall promote and develop Native American educational, economic, social and cultural opportunities by providing a location and source for information dissemination of maters of interest to Native Americans; by providing and sponsoring Native American exhibits, conferences, forums, cultural expositions and cultural education for the general public; and doing all such further work as shall be beneficial to the Indian community." Today, our Mission Statement remains the same as in 1975 and we have broadened the services we provide and developed other programs of outreach to not only the Native American community, but the broader community as well. Our original statement of purpose and activities continue to be carried.
