Organization Overview: Los servicios consulares a los mexicanos residentes en Michigan y Ohio datan del año de 1824, al abrirse el Consulado General de México en Nueva York. Al incrementarse la importancia de la presencia mexicana en el área, en el año de 1920, se inauguró el Consulado de Carrera de México en Detroit, mismo que en 1940 pasó a formar parte de la jurisdicción del Consulado General de México en Chicago.
Hasta el año 2001, la Representación en Detroit se encargaba del Estado de Ohio. La jurisdicción del Consulado ha variado con el transcurso del tiempo conforme a la apertura y cierre de representaciones. Por acuerdo del ex Secretario del ramo, Jorge Castañeda Gutman, la circunscripción actual es el Estado de Michigan y la parte norte del Estado de Ohio, mientras la parte sur corresponde al Consulado en Indianápolis.
The consular services to Mexicans residing in Michigan and Ohio date back to 1824, when the General Consulate of Mexico opened in New York. As the importance of the Mexican presence in the area increased, in the year 1920, the Mexican Career Consulate was inaugurated in Detroit, which in 1940 became part of the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago.
Until 2001, the Representation in Detroit was in charge of the State of Ohio. The jurisdiction of the Consulate has varied with the passage of time according to the opening and closing of representations. By agreement of the former Secretary of the branch, Jorge Castañeda Gutman, the current circumscription is the State of Michigan and the northern part of the State of Ohio, while the southern part corresponds to the Consulate in Indianapolis.
