Organization Name: West Side Detroit Polish American Historical Society
Organization Overview: The West Side Detroit Polish American Historical Society was formed to function as an educational, historic, cultural, literary, and scientific organization, acting as a medium for research, public education, preservation, dissemination and publication of Polish and Polish American history and culture, specifically as it pertains to the immigrants who settled on Detroit’s west side and the neighborhoods they built, which the Board of Directors has defined as the area from the Ambassador Bridge to I-96 to Evergreen Road, south on Evergreen Road to the Rouge River, from the Rouge River to the Detroit River, and back to the Ambassador Bridge. Our work includes the study of the immigrants’ descendants, their neighbors, and those of other ethnic groups. The organization commemorates historic buildings, churches, and individuals and functions as a repository of historical archives, including artifacts, documents, oral histories, photographs, audio and videotapes, documentary films, and other significant records relative to the organization’s mission and purposes. The organization disseminates its work through public programs, films, publications and other media.
