Organization Overview:  As’salamu alaikum. When we embarked on this journey, we knew the road would be difficult, but we never imagined that it would be impossible. As the northern suburbs grew, so did the number of Muslims seeking a sense of community. Groups gathered in private homes for Islamic study and prayers. The existing Masjids were too far away to attend regularly and the need for a local Masjid was imperative. In April 1978, with thirty member families, the Islamic Association of Greater Detroit was established as a non-profit organization. Initially, the organization continued to meet in homes and also rented space in Larson Middle School for lectures and community dinners. In just one year, vigorous fund-raising accomplished purchasing a three-acre parcel of land. The property included a small blue house and garage which were immediately put to use as a home for the community. By 1982, the plans and continued fund-raising made the construction of the IAGD masjid a reality. Once built, the IAGD masjid became a focal point for Muslims in the area, and the gatherings grew. Sunday Islamic classes, monthly community dinners and ’Eid salat burgeoned. As the surrounding suburbs grew, so had the number of Muslims who chose to move near the Masjid and to make it a cornerstone in their lives.

Organization Name:  Islamic Cultural Association
Organization Overview:  The Islamic Cultural Association was founded by a group of families who hoped to establish an Islamic community that modeled their beliefs and values. In 1987, the community purchased the Franklin Building and moved to its present location. Two years later, it established the prestigious Huda School which has flourished over the years, alhamdulilah. The ICA created a weekend Arabic School, Dar-al Huda. The ICA has continued to grow and expand, offering its members an Islamic environment where they can feel at home and raise their children with hearts at ease. Since its inception, the ICA has held various school and family functions for the occasions that matter most to its members—such as Ramadan and Eid—as well as exciting activities for the whole family. It has also prided itself in offering weekly Islamic and educational lectures and maintaining a youth program that has been going strong for years, Alhamdulilah. The ICA hopes to continue to expand by offering more services that the community can benefit from. The ICA is always looking to expand and improve, while building on its already strong foundation. We hope to add to our growing list of services and events and to continue improving our youth and education programs. Please feel free to send in any comments or suggestions you may have. If you would like to be a volunteer for an ICA event or function, you will be helping your family, supporting your community, and working for the cause of Allah. With His help, we feel confident that the ICA will continue to grow and prosper, Inshallah!

Organization Overview:  Temple Inauguration This is the sixth temple of the Shri Swaminarayan Sampraday (I.S.S.O) inaugurated in the USA. The temple has great significance because it was the last temple in the USA that His Holiness 1008 Shri Tejendraprasadji Maharaj performed Praan Pratishta (Installation Ceremony). The Detroit Temple was a gift in disguise from HH Tejendraprasadji Maharaj. Throughout His final journey in the USA, HH Tejendraprasadji Maharaj had not spoken that this would be His final Praan Pratishta before initiating the next guru of the sampraday. HH Tejendraprasadji Maharaj said in His final words, “I can see that Almighty Lord Swaminarayan in this temple looks playful, charming, and mischievous. He is the personification of Ghanshyam Maharaj (Name given to Lord Swaminarayan in his childhood) during His childhood.” With that HH Tejendraprasadji Maharaj left the holy assembly with the divine gift of Almighty Lord Swaminarayan’s presence. Idols worshipped Lord Harikrishna Maharaj (Principal God of this temple) Lord Radhakrishna Dev (center seat) Lord Narnarayan Dev (On the left hand side of Harikrishna Maharaj) Lord Laxminarayan Dev (On the Right hand side of Radha Krishna Dev) Deity of Hanuman Dev Deity of Suryanarayan Dev Deity of Ganapati Dev Deity of Shankar Parvati Deity of Tirupati Balaaji

Organization Overview:  Thank you for visiting the English language webpage of the Japanese School of Detroit (JSD). We hope that this site will help you understand our school and Japanese students as well as their cultural background.

Organization Overview:  The Kalamazoo Islamic School (KIS) welcomes you. We are looking forward to assisting you with Islamic education and exciting competitions. Kalamazoo Islamic School (KIS) started at Kalamazoo Islamic Center (KIC) to meet the needs of Muslim children living in and around the greater Kalamazoo area. Although KIC was established to serve the needs of the university student population at Western Michigan University, it soon became apparent that many of their children's religious needs were not being met. Many of the parents in the community joined together to open up the Kalamazoo Islamic School so that they could provide their children with Islamic education each week. As the years went by, the population of the community grew and now KIS has around 200 students enrolled each year. Students vary in age from as young as four (pre-school age) through highschool. KIS also has adults, both college age and beyond, enrolled in their senior classes. The regular school starts promptly at 11:00AM and end at 2:15PM after the Zuhar prayers. The Arabic Language Classes are offered from 10:00am to 10:50am. The school timings are fixed for the entire school year, and no adjustments are made for daylight savings time. Parents are responsible for on-time bringing and picking-up their children to/from the school. Furthermore, Parents are also responsible for monitoring their children before and after school hours. Zuhar prayers are part of the curriculum and students must pray Zuhar with the Jamaa. Early arrival is encouraged to pray Tahiyat-al-Masjid upon entering the Masjid, and Duha prayers (before Zuhar).
