Organization Overview:  English as a Second Language courses are offered at three OCC campuses: Royal Oak, Auburn Hills, and Orchard Ridge (Farmington Hills). These courses help prepare students to be successful in other academic courses. We offer four levels of combined writing/reading courses, four levels of combined grammar/listening courses, and three levels of speaking courses. These are credit courses that follow the semester plan. In addition, Royal Oak and Orchard Ridge campuses also offer lower level, non-credit courses called the Bridge Class for students who are not ready for the lowest level of our credit program.

Organization Overview:  OIA is a Public School Academy that first opened its doors in 1999. It currently is serving 740 students from grades K-12. The focus of the school in 2006-2007 was modified from International Studies and Technology to one of improving English Language acquisition and proficiency. 2007-2008 school year expanded this focus to improved English Language acquisition and proficiency by providing more ESL teachers and expanding the curriculum to include more contact hours in English language acquisition. There are 58 full-time highly qualified professional teaching staff members. The school graduated its first class in 2002/2003. Any Michigan resident may attend the academy, free of charge. In the event that there are more registrants than seats available, a lottery is conducted.

Organization Overview:  Owned by People's Community Services (PCS), the H. Irving Mayson Hamtramck Center is a large facility with many resources for the community. Located on the south end of Hamtramck, a diverse community of long-time residents and recent immigrants, the center also has several classrooms used for arts and crafts, adult education and meetings. A large common room with comfortable seating houses pool tables, foosball and ice hockey tables. This room can also be set up for large meetings or used as a dining area to the adjacent full kitchen and pantry area. Community members also enjoy our full indoor gym and basketball court. More than 250 youth use the center each year and enjoy great programs such as the Youth Stay In School Initiative and many dynamic summer programs. ACCESS (Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services) has an office onsite. This center also provides basic needs services for community members most in need including food assistance, clothing, employment, shelter, medical, and transportation. PCS has amazing success in being a resource for all ethnic groups in this area and encouraging participation from individual groups as well as dialogue between groups.

Organization Overview:  As the official professional organization of the Philippine Nurses in Michigan, PNAM will uphold the positive image and welfare of its constituent members, promote professional excellence and contribute significant outcomes to healthcare and society. On October 14, 1972, the Nurses Council of the Filipino American Association was formed in response to the plight of H1-Visa nurses. Adoring Brialliantes Tuanquin was appointed Council Director. In December 1973, the Nurses Council became officially a subchapter of the Philippine Nurses Association in Manila, Philippines and renamed Philippine Nurses Association of Michigan (PNAM) making it an autonomous professional group. On July 8, 1974, the PNAM was officially chartered in the State of Michigan as non-stock, non- profit organization. The PNA of Michigan is an organization dedicated to excellence. It values shared responsibility, team work, open communication and collaboration . Now on its 42nd anniversary, it continues to be pillar of strength and professional growth. It has overcome the challenges of human elements and turned them into opportunities.

Organization Overview:  The Piast Institute is a national research center devoted to Polish and Polish American affairs. It is also one of forty-eight United States Census Bureau Information Centers (CIC) and one of two located in Michigan. The Piast Institute develops conferences, seminars, publications, public programs, lectures, and exhibits that provide accurate information about Poland, Poles, and Polish Americans. It also has a special interest in the role of Ethnicity in American Life. With its resources and its position as a Census Information Center, the Piast Institute also acts as a data resource center helping Polish, Polish American and other community groups develop policy papers and historical, cultural, political, economic, social and demographic studies on a wide variety of topics. The Piast Institute is also officially certified by the Department of Homeland Security as an Immigrant Assistance site with trained staff to help immigrants with visa, documentation, and status issues. The Institute’s mission and programming also aim to celebrate Polish contributions to America as well as world culture, and to address and counter inaccurate or defamatory information about Poland, Poles or Polish Americans. The Institute was founded in 2003 by the late Dr. Thaddeus Radzilowski, a celebrated historian, writer and academic, and Mrs. Virginia Skrzyniarz, an accomplished executive serving non-profit organizations in various capacities for over thirty years. Mrs. Skrzyniarz was appointed the CEO by the Piast Board of Directors in 2018.
