Organization Overview:  The American Dream: Citizenship program at ACCESS will provide services to more than 200 legal permanent residents of Arab, Latino, Bangladeshi, African, Albanian, and Bosnian descent concentrated in the Detroit metropolitan area. ACCESS is centrally situated within these communities. The program will offer free services including a U.S. citizenship prep course, citizenship days that provide naturalization eligibility screening, case management and data tracking, assistance submitting applications for citizenship, informational workshops, and citizenship attainment. Participant groups are comprised of low-income, new immigrant populations, including seniors and refugees. This program seeks to build a deeper level of trust between immigrant communities and federally supported agencies that offer citizenship and naturalization services, and will reach a population of people who are currently assisted with these services on the marginal level. With civic integration comes participation – in service groups, school boards, homeowners associations, charitable organizations and many other worthy causes. This citizen-driven community participation is a hallmark of what makes this country great. Classes offered at ACCESS Youth and Family Services Center, 2651 Saulino Ct., and ACCESS Employment and Training, 6451 Schaefer, both in Dearborn.

Organization Name:  Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates
Organization Overview:  Bringing stability to West Michigan families & communities through legal services & advocacy Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates (LIA) is a law office that brings stability to West Michigan families and communities through legal services and advocacy. Families that are constantly in fear of deportation; families that lack access to quality, low-cost legal services; families that are unauthorized to work; and/or families are trapped in violent situations, struggle to maintain stability and economic security. Unstable families and families suffering from economic insecurity lead to instability in our communities, schools, and workplaces. This is an issue that impacts everyone in our community: rich and poor, young and old, citizen and noncitizen. Founded in response to this need within one of our most vulnerable communities, LIA provides high-quality legal services for a nominal fee. LIA also advocates through community education, internships and volunteer opportunities, and public awareness campaigns. These services work towards insuring family economic security, intact and unified family units, and detecting and preventing violence in our community. LIA staff and board of directors are members of this community who are passionate about serving this community. Anyone, regardless of race, color, religion, creed, disability, age, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression, are welcome to seek and receive services at LIA. We value human life and dignity. We value social justice. And we value a strong and stable community.
